Kolkata Triple Murder: The minor survivor in the triple murder case in Kolkata has stated that he used yoga practices to hold his breath in order to survive when his uncle attempted to suffocate him with a pillow. The 14-year-old said that he pretended to be dead till his uncle left the room in a statement to the West Bengal Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR).

The horrific event happened in the Tangra neighbourhood of Kolkata on February 19. Three members of the Dey family were discovered dead at their home: a girl who was the minor's cousin, two adults who were the minor's mother and aunt. Three other family members—the minor, his father, and his uncle—were hurt the same day when their vehicle collided with a subway pillar.

The brothers informed the police that the family members had made a suicide pact. The family, who had ran a tannery business, was discovered by police to be struggling financially.

Members of the child's rights panel, under the direction of adviser Ananya Chakraborty, paid the minor a visit earlier this week at NRS Hospital, where he is receiving treatment alongside his father and uncle.

According to Chakraborty, the minor informed them that his uncle Pranay and father Prasun Dey were experiencing severe financial hardship.

"Two days before the incident, the minor heard his father saying, 'Now the creditors will chase us. There is no other way but death'," Chakraborty said.

A suicide pact was then devised, which involved consuming porridge laced with sleeping pills. The child, however, claimed that because he practiced yoga every day, the medicine had no impact on him.

"He (the minor) claimed that his uncle, pressed a pillow over his face to kill him, but he survived by holding his breath because of regular yoga practice. Believing him to be dead, his father and uncle then left the room," Chakraborty said.

According to Kolkata Police officials, the kid made the same statement after being questioned.
