The Madhya Pradesh government has not resumed fresh registrations under the Ladli Behna Yojana since August 20, 2023, Women and Child Development Minister Nirmala Bhuria informed the state assembly on Tuesday. The scheme, however, remains active and eligible beneficiaries continue to receive financial assistance.
Minister Nirmala Bhuria's written response came in reply to questions raised by Congress MLA Pratap Grewal, who sought clarity on the continuity of the scheme and the enrollment of new beneficiaries. She clarified that the first phase of registrations concluded on August 20, 2023, and new registrations have not commenced since then. The minister further stated that instructions for receiving fresh applications under the scheme are issued separately.

Launched in March 2023 by then-Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Ladli Behna Yojana initially provided financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per month to eligible women. In October 2023, the amount was increased to Rs 1,250. The scheme was rolled out in a phased manner, with pre-registration conducted under departmental instructions issued on March 4 and July 20, 2023.
Nirmala Bhuria emphasised that while fresh registrations are on hold, the scheme remains operational and nearly 1.29 crore women beneficiaries continue to receive benefits. The government’s flagship program was launched approximately six months before the November 2023 assembly elections, with the aim of supporting women across the state.
The minister’s clarification addresses concerns about the continuity of the scheme while indicating that future registrations may be subject to separate government directives.
