Lakshadweep islands have been the hot cake since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Indian Archipelago which brought the marine haven to the limelight. Since the buzz, this group of 36 islands have been searched rampantly by tourists recording a spike in booking of tickets and tour packages to the islands.

The islands, India's smallest union territory, recently received flak from a Maldivian minister who mocked the Prime Minister after he posted pictures on the beaches of Lakshadweep. Soon the entire nation came to its beloved island's defence voicing that "it is no less than Maldives".

The Centre has also encouraged tourism to the islands, home to indigenous tribes.

Here's What Makes A Visit To Lakshadweep Worth It:

-Bangaram Island: Known for its exotic beaches and lush greenery, the group of 36 islands and India's smallest Union Territory is home to a tiny teardrop-shaped island called Bangaram, located close to Agatti and Kavaratti islands.Tourists can either avail of boat or helicopter transfer from Agatti. It is the only uninhabited island resort in Lakshadweep that illuminates a bluish glow due to the presence of phosphorescent plankton that gets washed ashore on the coral sands.

-Minicoy Island: Isolated from the main group of islands, this lies 200 kilometres south of the northern group. It comprises a cluster of 11 villages, which are called "Ava'h" each presided over by an elected village elder called Bodukaka.

-Agatti: Home to the Lakshadweep airport, this island will have a 20-bed tourist complex with all modern amenities set up here.

-Pitti Bird Sanctuary: Take a small boat to this bird haven if you are staying on the Kalpeni islands and you will have reached this secluded place, in the middle of nowhere. This is a great place for snorkeling to dive deeper into indigenous marine life.

-Kiltan Island: Popular for a sprawl of spots with colonial prominence. This was a significant point on the trade route between Ceylon and the Persian Gulf. Situated 52 kilometres from Amini's main island, it is home to stunning reefs and lagoons.
