All the parties have started announcing the names of candidates for the Lok Sabha polls. Parties are campaigning with all their efforts and the blame game has begun. While the BJP government has claimed to register a victory on over 400 seats, with the slogan 'Abki bar 400 ke paar', the Opposition's INDIA bloc are putting in blood and sweat to stop the Modi government from retaining the third consecutive term.
Let's take a look at some key candidates from both the BJP and Opposition's alliance:
PM Modi vs Ajay Rai Contesting In Varanasi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is contesting polls from Varanasi against Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai. Rai contested against PM Modi both in 2014 and 2019, however, couldn't secure victory and ended up in the third position. During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi defeated Samajwadi Party candidate Shalini Yadav by a margin of over four lakh votes.
K Surendran vs Rahul Gandhi In Wayanad
Kerala BJP chief K Surendran will be fighting against incumbent MP and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi. BJP fielded Surendran from the Alappuzha Lok Sabha seat in 2019, however, he couldn't secure victory and lost from his rival candidate. Meanwhile, Gandhi won the Wayanad seat in 2019 with a record margin, however, he lost Amethi's seat to Union Minister Smriti Irani.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury vs Yusuf Pathan In Baharampur
Another interesting fight to see is between Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and former cricketer Yusuf Pathan, who has been fielded by Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Abhijit Gangopadhyay vs Debangshu Bhattacharya In Tamluk
The Tamluk constituency in West Bengal, where the BJP has nominated former Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay and the Trinamool Congress has selected Debangshu Bhattacharya as head of its social media cell, is anticipated to be one of the most closely followed seats for the Lok Sabha elections.
BJP's Gangopadhyay, whose name was recently released in party's fifth list of candidates, has become a part of controversy recently after joining the saffron regiment. West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has referred to him as a "BJP babu who was sitting on the bench".
Rajeev Chandrasekhar vs Shashi Tharoor In Thiruvananthapuram
Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor contests polls from Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram. Union Minister and BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar will be fighting against Tharoor who has been representing the constituency since 2009 ever since his debut in politics.
