Lok Sabha Elections: Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad Lok Sabha seat witnessed a political whirlpool after the INDIA alliance candidate at the seat Dr ST Hasan withdrew his nomination paving the way for Ajam Khan-backed Ruchi Vira to fight the poll on the party's symbol. The political drama unfolded as earlier Samajwadi Party fielded Dr ST Hasan as the party candidate. He even filed his nomination from the seat.
Earlier on Wednesday Hasan took back his nomination as confirmed by the District Magistrate Manvendra Singh.
On the nomination filed by Ruchi Vira from Moradabad for the Lok Sabha seat, DM Manvendra Singh said: "...We have received the cancellation of the form that was filed by Dr ST Hasan and a new form has been given to Ruchi Vira...As of now, She (Ruchi Vira) will be authorized."
SP takes a U-turn on Hasan's nomination
Earlier, the Samajwadi Party had declared Dr ST Hasan, the current MP from Moradabad, as its candidate on Sunday. On the same day, he met party chief Akhilesh Yadav and other party leaders. His rivals in the ticket race, Kanth MLA Kamal Akhtar and Moradabad Dehat MLA Nasir Qureshi had also confirmed Hasan's nomination by releasing video messages. Dr Hasan was welcomed when he arrived in the city on Sunday night.
He also filed nomination papers on Tuesday in the presence of SP and Congress leaders.
Ruchi Vira makes a surprise entry
However, on Tuesday evening whispers hit the political corridors of western UP that Hasan's ticket might get axed. In the evening Ruchi Veera also claimed to be a party candidate for the seat. Many party officials, on the condition of anonymity, started confirming the news as true.
Reacting to the news Hasan had said: "I got the nomination done on the orders of Akhilesh ji. Now I can only pray. Whatever decision God takes in my favour is acceptable."
'Will abide by party's decision': Hasan
Even though ST Hasan was sidelined after initial consideration, he said that he will abide by the party's decision.
"She is the authorised candidate. I have no objection to this. It is the party's decision that they can field anyone...I have always criticised the politics of hate and will continue to move forward against it...I am with the ideology of Late Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav," he said while speaking with ANI.
