Amid the high demand for LPG cylinders, the government has given out new incentives to customers with PNG connections. Customers who get a PNG connection will receive Rs 500 worth of gas for free, and companies are waiving the connection and security fees. The government had previously asked PNG customers in areas with pipeline connections to switch to one of these systems within three months; they will be cut off from gas.
As a result of the ongoing war in the Middle East and energy crisis, LPG, petrol, and diesel supply chains have also been disrupted worldwide. However, going forward, the government is attempting to convert this crisis into an opportunity. The government wants customers living in PNG supplied areas to give up their LPG cylinders. Additionally, any customers who have both LPG and PNG connections have been ordered to turn in their LPG cylinder connections immediately.
Currently, Indraprastha Gas Ltd, a City Gas distributor serving customers in Delhi, has placed advertisements encouraging people to switch to PNG connections. "Switch to PNG the smart way. Rs 1/day fee waived for the first three months, plus no registration fee." This offer is valid until June 30, 2026. Switch today,” Indraprastha Gas Ltd stated in an advertisement.
Why switch from LPG to PNG?
India's import of LPG is higher than that of PNG, leading the government to encourage people to adopt PNG. Another reason is that PNG has lower transportation costs than LPG cylinders. Since the crisis caused by the Iran war, approximately 2,20,000 customers have switched from LPG to PNG.

The Delhi government has approved the 24-hour operation of the PNG project, and the PNG application process has been simplified. PNG is metered and cheaper than LPG.
