JE News Desk: Gangster Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva has been shot dead on Wednesday in Lucknow court premises. According to the information, a policeman was also injured in the firing. He was rushed to Civil Hospital in the state.

DCP West and DCP Central reached the court premises after receiving word of the incident, said Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Kumar Mishra.  Meanwhile, immediately after the shootout, the police faced the ire of lawyers who pelted stones at them. 

"A person opened fire in UP's Lucknow Civil Court. The injured has been sent to Trauma Centre. We do not have any detail as of now," said Lucknow DCP.

According to initial reports, the shooters arrived in the court dressed as lawyers and opened fire at Sanjeev Jeeva.  Jeeva collapsed at the spot after being shot at while a police officer. The attackers managed to flee the spot after killing Sanjeev Jeeva, who was also a dreaded shooter. Jeeva was brought to Lucknow court for a hearing in a criminal case. He was booked in several other criminal cases.

Visuals outside the court show chaos and people gathering around the premises after the firing. Heavy police forces have been deployed in Lucknow court after the shootout.

The gangster hailed from western Uttar Pradesh and was arrested in 2006 in connection with the murders of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and former UP minister Brahmadutt Dwivedi. He began as a compounder and then became a member of the underworld. He was a close associate of Munna Bajrangi who was shot dead in 2018 in Baghpat jail.
