Lucknow Metro Update: The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has upgraded Lucknow Metro's ticketing system on the lines of Delhi Metro. UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar officially launched the QR code-based ticketing at Hazratganj station. The new automatic gates not only scan QR tickets but are also equipped to read National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC).

UPMRC plans to introduce NCMC card travel facility in Lucknow by March 15, 2026. Once implemented, passengers will be able to use the same NCMC card across metro systems in most Indian cities (except Kolkata).

High Daily Ridership On Key Corridor

The North-South corridor from Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport to Munshipulia sees around 80,000 daily passengers. Lucknow Metro has issued smart cards to 1.25 lakh users, but only about 60,000 remain active. On the first day of QR ticketing, approximately 15,000 passengers used the new system, with the highest numbers recorded at Krishnanagar, Singar Nagar, and Hazratganj stations.

Book Tickets From Home, Simple And Convenient

Passengers can now book QR tickets from anywhere using the official Lucknow Metro Official mobile app, available on both the Play Store and iOS. After booking, a QR code appears on the phone, which can be scanned at specially marked yellow automatic gates for entry and exit.

QR tickets can also be purchased at ticket vending machines and counters at stations. UPMRC has installed new QR-enabled ticket vending machines at all stations and designated one automatic gate and one counter per station for QR-based ticketing.

MD Sushil Kumar On New System

Speaking on the occasion, UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar said the initiative is based on the concept of “smart travel,” allowing passengers to book tickets from anywhere. He added that NCMC card facility will soon start in Lucknow, similar to Kanpur and Agra, enabling seamless travel on metro networks across the country where NCMC is accepted.

The upgrade is expected to make travel faster, reduce queues, and promote digital ticketing in Lucknow Metro.
