Lucknow-Bhopal Expressway: The 600-km expressway between Lucknow and Bhopal, which has been going on for the last five years, is set to conclude soon, boosting regional connectivity between the states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The project is expected to be completed by late 2026. Once completed, the travel time between the cities is set to be cut down significantly.
Currently, the travel time between the two cities is around 15 hours, but after the construction of this expressway, the travel time will be cut down to only seven hours. According to News24, the construction on the expressway has already commenced in certain parts of the city.
The expressway will also connect three separate highways across both states, and each stretch will have four to six lanes to handle the traffic. Work is underway on the following highways:
Kanpur-Kabrai Highway
Kabrai-Sagar Highway
Sagar-Bhopal Highway
Lucknow-Bhopal Expressway: Features
Length: 600 KM
Cost: Approximately between Rs 11,000 crore and Rs 11,300 crore
Route: The expressway will pass through key districts including Kanpur, Hamirpur, and Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh, and Chhatarpur and Sagar in Madhya Pradesh.
Lucknow-Bhopal expressway is modelled after the Yamuna Expressway that connects Greater Noida with Agra.
The expressway will be completed in 2026 and will be operational for the public by the end of next year.
The project is expected not only to help in fast passenger movement but also to help in the freight movement between the cities.

Lucknow-Kanpur Highway
In a separate development, Lucknow and Kanpur are connected through a two-lane highway and expressway. Under the project, a 124-km highway is being developed to link Naubasta Kanpur to Kabrai. A bypass is being built on the mentioned route to allow vehicles to avoid residential areas in the region.
