Air India Plane Crash: Calling himself 'the luckiest man alive, the lone survivor of the catastrophic Air India crash speaks about his life after the deadly incident and how he is struggling with the trauma of the incident and the pain of losing his brother.

The only survivor of the deadly Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad early this year, Viswashkumar Ramesh, 39, spoke out for the first time. A London-bound Air India Boeing 787 burst into flames shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad in June, killing all the 242 people on board except one.

Talking to the news media platform, BBC, Ramesh said that his coming out alive from the debris of the plane and being alive is a 'miracle'. He also shared about the pain he is going through after losing his brother, saying, "I lost my brother as well. My brother is my backbone."

Ramesh's brother Ajay was seated a few rows away from him and was killed in the plane crash with 240 others.

Ramesh Continues Life With Pain Of Losing Brother And PTSD

Sharing about his life after the accident and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and talked about physical injuries that prevent him from working or driving. "Now I’m alone. I just sit in my room alone, not talking with my wife or my son," he said.

"He’s lost and broken," said local community leader Sanjiv Patel, who has been supporting the family. Ramesh's adviser was quoted as saying in the report that Ramesh has not received any medical treatment since returning home to Leicester and remains in deep emotional distress. 

Family Demands Accountability From Airline

Ramesh’s representatives, including spokesman Radd Seiger, said that the airline failed to support the survivor and his family, and the request for a meeting with the CEO has been continuously ignored.

"They’re in crisis, mentally, physically, financially," Patel said, adding, "Whoever’s responsible should meet the victims and understand their needs."

Air India, under Tata Group ownership, stated that senior executives have been reaching out to the bereaved families and have extended an offer to engage with Ramesh’s representatives. The airline reaffirmed its dedication to ongoing assistance.

Ramesh has received an interim compensation of 21,500 pounds, which his advisors say is inadequate. The family’s fishing enterprise in Diu—previously managed alongside his deceased brother—has now ceased operations.
