Madhya Pradesh News: A 35-year-old teacher from Mauganj, Madhya Pradesh, tragically ended her life after falling victim to cyber fraud. The fraudsters falsely accused her of sending a parcel containing "illegal materials" and threatened her with arrest, leading her to take the extreme step, police reported on Monday.
The victim, Reshma Pandey, a government guest teacher, consumed poison at her home in Ghurehata on Sunday evening. She was rushed to Sanjay Medical College in Rewa but passed away on the way, Superintendent of Police Rasna Thakur confirmed.
"Cybercriminals targeted Pandey, accusing her of sending illegal materials through a parcel. They extorted money from her by threatening her with arrest," SP Thakur stated. A case has been registered, and a cybercrime team has launched an investigation into the incident.

According to the deceased's brother-in-law, Vinod Pandey, the fraudsters pressured Reshma into transferring Rs 22,000 and Rs 5,500 to bank accounts they provided. They allegedly subjected her to what he termed "digital arrest," leaving her distressed. "They threatened her with arrest if she didn’t pay. Unable to bear the pressure, she consumed poison," he said.
The incident has raised concerns over increasing cases of cyber fraud in India and the devastating impact such crimes can have on victims. Authorities have urged people to be cautious of fraudulent schemes and report any suspicious activity immediately.
