Mahakumbh Special Trains: The Mahakumbh Mela 2025 officially commenced today, with special railway services starting from January 13 to accommodate the influx of devotees. These trains will operate from eight key railway stations in Prayagraj: Prayagraj Junction, Subedarganj, Naini, Chheoki, Jhunsi, Rambagh, Prayag and Phaphamau, where passengers will disembark.
The Maha Kumbh Mela is recognised as one of the largest religious gatherings globally, held every 12 years. This year, the event is taking place in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from January 13 to February 26. Approximately 450 million devotees are expected to attend, including pilgrims from across India and abroad. Many attendees come to take a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, believed to purify sins and bestow blessings. Significant rituals, including special royal baths, will also take place during the event.

Mahakumbh 2025: Special Trains For Devotees
To manage the anticipated crowd during the Mahakumbh Mela, Indian Railways has introduced extensive special train services. A total of 13,000 trains will operate, comprising 10,000 regular and 3,000 special trains. These services began before the Mela and will continue for 50 days after its conclusion.
The Western Railway has deployed 98 special trains specifically for the Mahakumbh, ensuring all necessary passenger amenities are available. Safety measures will be enhanced, with Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel assigned to maintain security.
Special Routes And Services
Special train services will connect various regions to Prayagraj. Notably, trains will run from Una to Prayagraj between January 17 and February 23, with stops at Nangal Dam, Chandigarh, Lucknow and Rae Bareli. These trains will feature sleeper, general and AC three-tier coaches for passenger comfort.
North-Eastern Railway (NER) is operating special trains from Jaynagar to Jhusi on January 10, 24, 31 and February 1 and 3. These will stop at Madhubani, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and Varanasi. Train schedules will adjust based on passenger demand.
From Guntur and Maula Ali (Hyderabad), the following trains will operate:
-Train 7701: Leaves Guntur on January 24 at 11:00 PM, arriving in Azamgarh at 5:15 PM the next day.
-Train 7702: Departs Azamgarh on January 26 at 7:45 PM, reaching Guntur the following morning.
-Train 7707: Runs from Maula Ali on January 18 and February 21 at 11:55 PM, arriving in Azamgarh at 5:15 PM the next day.
Enhanced Connectivity
To improve connectivity, Indian Railways has introduced ring rail services around Prayagraj. Key routes include:
-Prayagraj-Ayodhya-Varanasi-Prayagraj
-Prayagraj-Sangam Prayag-Jaunpur-Prayag-Prayagraj
- Govindpuri-Prayagraj-Chitrakoot-Govindpuri
- Jhansi-Govindpuri-Prayagraj-Manikpur-Chitrakoot-Jhansi
Additional Special Train Services
Several other special train routes have been announced:
-Train 7708: Azamgarh to Maula Ali on January 20 and February 23, departing at 7:45 PM and arriving at 7:30 AM the next day.
-Train 7711: Maula Ali to Gaya on January 19, leaving at 5:50 PM and arriving at 9:00 AM the next day.
-Train 7712: Gaya to Maula Ali on January 21, with timings similar to Train 7711.
-Train 7719: Guntur to Gaya on January 25, departing at 2:20 PM and arriving at 9:00 AM the next day.
-Train 7720: Gaya to Guntur on January 27, leaving at 2:15 PM and reaching at 4:00 AM the next day.
-Train 7721: Nanded to Patna on January 22, departing at 11:00 PM and arriving at 10:30 AM the next day.
-Train 7722: Patna to Nanded on January 24, leaving at 3:30 PM and arriving the next day at 4:30 AM.
Superfast Train Between Bandra Terminus And Gorakhpur Will Also Run:
-05054: Departs Bandra Terminus every Saturday at 9:20 PM, arriving in Gorakhpur at 6:45 AM on Monday.
-05053: Leaves Gorakhpur every Friday at 7:50 AM, reaching Bandra Terminus at 6:00 PM the next day.
Additionally, a special train between Katra and Prayagraj will commence operations on January 24, 2025, reaching Prayagraj at 5:45 AM the following day, with a return trip on January 26 at 3:15 PM.
Mahakumbh Train Routes From Major Cities
Special trains will operate from various cities to Prayagraj, including:
-Delhi to Prayagraj: Route includes New Delhi, Agra, Kanpur.
-Kolkata to Prayagraj: Route includes Howrah, Asansol, Patna.
-Bihar and Jharkhand: Direct services from Patna, Darbhanga and Ranchi.

Ticket Booking And Passenger Services
Ticket booking for Mahakumbh special trains has already begun. General coach tickets will be available two hours before the train's departure. To enhance passenger experience, cleanliness and safety measures have been prioritised on all trains.
Indian Railways has also set up help desks and deployed additional staff to manage the expected surge of devotees. Food stalls, medical assistance and security services will be readily available at railway stations.
Passengers can conveniently book tickets through the official IRCTC website or mobile app, with priority given to group bookings for confirmation.
