As the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) led its first 'Chalo Sansad' march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament on Monday, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination irregularities and the NEET paper leak, thousands of protesters took to the streets.

However, amid the demonstration, CJP spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya was seen eating a burger at a metro station outlet, where he was confronted by a youth who questioned his absence from the protest.

A video of the exchange has since gone viral on social media. Following the backlash, the GenZ party relieved him of all official responsibilities.

The viral clip appeared to show Dahiya at a fast-food outlet near the protest site at Jantar Mantar. The person filming confronted him, asking why he was there instead of standing with protesters, who were clashing with police during an attempted march towards Parliament.

In the video, a person can be heard asking him, “The protesters are being beaten with sticks, and you’re roaming around here? What kind of support is this?"

Dahiya initially ignored the questions and continued walking before eventually stopping to respond.

“You’re behaving like a joke,” he said calmly.

The clip quickly spread across social media, with many users questioning the absence of CJP leaders while young protesters allegedly faced a lathi charge and tear gas.

“I am seriously empathetic to the victims of the lathi charge. The so-called leaders of the protest have done nothing but make youngsters fools," read one comment under the video.

“This guy was not seen anywhere. Condolences to those who came there on these fellows’ words,” another user wrote.

How Dahiya Responded

Responding to the criticism, Dahiya denied abandoning the protest and said those accusing him had not even attended the march.

“You hold me accountable as if it were my job to be a protestor. You haven’t elected me to this position,” he said in Hindi.

Dahiya later posted a video response while munching on a burger in which he said he was hungry after a long night of protesting and described the controversy as “bakwas” (rubbish).

In the video caption, he wrote, "By the way, I didn't eat the burger, because I felt that it had maida and trans fats, and maybe I should eat elsewhere."

He said there was nothing unusual about eating after a long day. He also claimed that although he had initially ordered a burger, he chose not to eat it after learning it contained refined flour and trans fats.

Addressing criticism over his conduct during previous demonstrations, Dahiya said he had earlier been criticised for dancing at protests and wearing colourful clothes. According to him, such debates distracted attention from the issues being raised by the movement.

He further maintained that he remained part of the protest and left only after the march had concluded.

"Nobody pays me to participate in the protest," Dahiya said, adding that he was participating because he believed in the cause.

He also said, "Yes, I will eat the burger," a remark that was widely shared on social media following his response.

The viral clip, which sparked widespread reactions online, eventually led to Dahiya's removal as the Cockroach Janta Party's spokesperson.
