A man in Haryana's Gurugam was detained on Wednesday over an act of cruelty against stray dogs in his area. The man was purportedly caught on a surveillance video beating street dogs viciously and throwing them from the roof of his house in the city's Bajghera area.
Anubhav Sharma, an animal rights activist, filed a complaint against Hoshiyar Singh, the accused, who repeatedly abused stray animals.
A CCTV installed in the area recorded the man's crime. Sharma said he gave the security camera footage to the police as proof in support of his complaint against Singh for the heinous mistreatment of these defenceless dogs.
Sharma also added that he brought the dogs to the vet following Singh's assault to have their wounds treated. Sharma added in the complaint that Singh, a resident of New Palam Vihar Phase 1, also murdered two more dogs in May.
According to Station House Officer (SHO) Aman Kumar of the Bajghera Police Station, an investigation was started following the CCTV footage provided by Sharma, and on Tuesday, Singh was charged with violating Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (subjecting an animal to unnecessary pain).
Singh has been detained and is being questioned, the officer stated, adding that they are further investigating the case. In the meantime, a CCTV recording of the event has gone viral on social media, outraging people who have called for the implementation of tighter animal protection regulations.
