On Tuesday, the Karnataka police issued notices to a group of youths who climbed onto freedom fighter Rani Abbakka's statue in Mangaluru and waved religious flags. The incident occurred during the Eid-e-Milad an-Nabi procession on September 28, where the youths, holding green flags, climbed the statue at Veera Rani Abbakka Circle.

The video of this act went viral and gained widespread attention on social media, sparking outrage. The Ullal police, having taken a serious view of the incident, collected video footage and identified the individuals involved. Subsequently, police notices were sent to the youths, requiring them to appear before the investigating officer.

During the procession, hundreds of youths climbed on the statue, reportedly displaying disrespectful behavior. They not only obstructed the road but also caused a disturbance to the public by continuous honking. Given Mangaluru's sensitive communal dynamics, the police swiftly acted and identified the youths hailing from Manjanadi, Madaka, Bantwal, Belthangady, Deralakatte, Konaje, and Ullal in Dakshina Kannada district.

In response to the stone-pelting incident during the Eid Milad procession, curfew orders have been imposed in Shivamogga City, leading to the arrest of over 40 individuals in connection with the disturbance.

Communal violence erupted in Karnataka's Shivamogga district last night. On Monday, the district administration imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in the Ragi Gudda area of the district after instances of stone-pelting were reported. Section 144 was imposed in the area to prevent any untoward incident, the police said.

As reported by the PTI news agency, an enraged mob reportedly hurled stones at several houses and vehicles, resulting in injuries to numerous individuals. The incident is believed to have been triggered by rumors suggesting that there had been stone-pelting during the Eid Milad procession.

Addressing the incident in Shivamogga, the Karnataka Chief Minister informed the media that 40 individuals have been apprehended for disrupting the peace in the Shivamogga district.

"An Eid Milad procession was underway when some miscreants pelted stones. They also threw stones at the police. So far 40 people have been arrested. Our government will not tolerate such activities. The situation is under control now," Siddaramaiah said.
