A retired Indian Army soldier, kidnapped by the militants in Manipur two days ago, was found dead on Monday after extensive searches, an official said. The body of Limlal Mate, a retired army man, was found between Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts.

This comes as the state witnessed at least 6 deaths in the latest spurt of violence. All the recent cases of violence were reported from the ethnically diverse Jiribam district, which was largely free from clashes earlier.

Violence broke out in the northeastern state last year between predominantly Hindu Meitie and Christian Kuki communities. Simmering since then, the conflict caused many deaths and destruction of the property in Manipur.
