Manipur Violence: Manipur's Churachandpur district witnessed a fresh spell of clashes in which several people got injured. An official on Wednesday said several persons were injured in the clashes between people belonging to Zomi and Hmar tribes in Churachandpur. The fresh violence was reported ahead of the visit of six Supreme Court judges to the violence-affected state.

The clashes took place in Churachandpur town late on Tuesday, just hours after a peace settlement was reached between the apex bodies of the two communities.

What triggered fresh clashes?

The violent incident broke out when a group of men tried to take down a flag of a Zomi militant outfit in the town.

No objections to visit of judges to Manipur: BJP

Meanwhile, BJP leader Gourav Vallabh welcomed the upcoming visit of six apex court judges to violence-affected Manipur and said that there are no objections to their visit to assess the situation and bolster legal and humanitarian support in the state.

The delegation comprising Justices BR Gavai, Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, MM Sundresh, KV Viswanathan and N Kotishwar will visit Manipur relief camps on March 22.

"The people of Manipur have chosen the path of peace and development and pointed out that despite attempts by several political groups to exploit the situation in the state over the past year, the people have focused on progress and harmony," he added.

"There is no objection if the judges of the Supreme Court want to go to Manipur, but the people of the state have chosen the road for peace and development. Many people in the state tried to shine their politics in Manipur in the past year, but the people of the state have made them unsuccessful," Vallabh added.

Justice Gavai, the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), will virtually inaugurate legal services camps and medical camps across all districts of Manipur, as well as new legal aid clinics in Imphal East, Imphal West and Ukhrul districts.

There will also be distribution of essential relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

The legal services camps will connect IDPs with government welfare programs, ensuring access to vital benefits such as healthcare, pensions, employment schemes, and identity document reconstruction.

Meanwhile, on March 11, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman assured the Parliament that the government was providing all assistance to violence-hit Manipur to speed up its economic recovery.
