Mathura Refinery Blast: At least 10 people suffered burns in a fire triggered by a major blast at the Indian Oil refinery in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura on Tuesday, Dainik Jagran reported. The blast is suspected to have occurred due to a leakage in the ABU plant which was closed for over 40 days and was being restarted on Tuesday.
According to Dainik Jagran, the explosion was so powerful, that it was heard up to hundreds of metres away. The plant's production manager, Rajeev Agarwal, production manager Sameer Srivastava, and employees Irfan, Harishankar, Moolchand, Satyabhan, Santosh, and Ajay Sharma were severely burned in the fire.
The wounded have been admitted to the refinery hospital and City Institute of Medical Science. Three among them have been shifted to Delhi for better treatment, Hindustan Times reported.
In a video shared by news agency IANS, huge flames of fire could be seen engulfing the plant. The fire started in the Thana refinery area of the IOCL plant, the agency added.

Out of the total victims, four were admitted to the City hospital with 40-50% burn injuries, said Dr Dinesh Yadav, one of the medical professionals treating them.
"4 patients with burn injuries were brought from the refinery. They are under treatment and stable... They have 40-50% burn injuries," he said.

As per an HT report, Mathura Refinery's public relations officer Renu Pathak said that no loss of life happened due to the fire and it has been controlled. She further added that an inquiry will be ordered to ascertain the causes behind the blast.
