Microsoft Investment In India: One of the largest tech companies across the globe, Microsoft, has announced that it will invest a huge amount of 17.5 billion dollars (Rs 1.5 Lakh Crore) in India, making it the company’s biggest investment in Asia.
The announcement made on Tuesday aims to help India move forward towards an 'AI-first' future.
Earlier, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, where they discussed expanding scope of artificial intelligence in India.
“Thank you, PM @narendramodi ji, for an inspiring conversation on India’s AI opportunity. To support the country’s ambitions, Microsoft is committing US$17.5B—our largest investment ever in Asia—to help build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities needed for India’s AI-first future," Nadella wrote on X after meeting with Prime Minister Modi.
Acknowledging the historic move toward an ‘AI-First’ future, PM Modi also wrote a post on X. “When it comes to AI, the world is optimistic about India! Had a very productive discussion with Mr. Satya Nadella. Happy to see India being the place where Microsoft will make its largest-ever investment in Asia. The youth of India will harness this opportunity to innovate and leverage the power of AI for a better planet," said PM Modi in an X post.
According to Microsoft's plan, the money will go towards building stronger cloud and computing systems, training millions of Indians in AI skills, and creating secure data centres that stay under Indian control.
This will speed up the use of AI in everyday areas like healthcare, factories, schools, banks, and government services. The company says the plan fully supports India’s goal of becoming an AI powerhouse.
The operational framework for the investment is not in public space yet, as the Government of India has not ydisclosed it. But officials say that it will significantly boost India’s digital transformation.
