Milind on Saturday, however, refuted the report suggesting his departure from the party and speculations of joining the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The pandemonium in Maharashtra Congress erupted after the Uddhav-led Shiv Sena faction claimed to contest the Mumbai South constituency, which was represented by Milind before 2014. The Congress leader, while expressing his displeasure, earlier said such statements from an alliance partner should stop and his party too could announce candidates before any consensus.
"Last week, their spokesperson asked the Congress to start from zero. If this wasn't enough, a fresh claim over the Mumbai South seat was made at a rally of the ally yesterday in Girgaum," he was quoted by PTI as saying.
"If a party doesn't want to wait till the formal talks on seat sharing conclude, the Congress will stake the claim and announce candidates. I hope this message reaches important people in Mumbai and Delhi. I appeal to you to be patient," Deora added.
Deora, son of Congress veteran Murli Deora, had won the Mumbai South seat in 2004 and 2009. He ended up as the first runner-up in the subsequent elections in 2014 and 2019 against Shiv Sena (Undivided) leader Arvind Sawant.
