JE News Desk: Amid nationwide outrage over the viral video showing two women being paraded naked in broad daylight in Manipur, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday invited sportspersons from a violence-hit state to train in his state. The southern state will host the 2024 editions of the Khelo India games.

Taking to Twitter, the Tamil Nadu CM wrote, “Understanding the current challenges faced by Manipur sportspersons, I cordially invite athletes from Manipur for sports training in Tamil Nadu ahead of #KheloIndia2024. Hon’ble Minister @Udhaystalin has also promised his support to facilitate their stay and training here.”

Stalin’s son and state Sports Minister Udhayanidhi also promised ‘high-quality’ facilities to the athletes on behalf of the sports department.

However, the BJP sharply reacted to Stalin’s invitation with state unit chief K Annamalai slamming the chief minister, saying that he has “woken up from sleep” and was acting like a “politician”. He further said that the Centre, which launched the Khelo India games, also knows how t train the sportspersons for the tournament.

The Tamil Nadu CM also emphasised that the situation in Manipur was not favourable for the sportspersons there to train themselves for events like Khelo India and Asian Games.

Stalin also said that Manipur was known to produce “champions, especially women champions”, and added that the Tamil Nadu government is deeply concerned and anguished regarding the current situation in the violence-hit state.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai lashed out at Stalin and said that the chief minister has no idea about the situation in Manipur. Regarding the incident of human faeces being found in an overhead water tank catering to Dalit residents in Puthukottai’s Vengaivayal, the state BJP chief said that over 200 days have passed since the incident took place but there has been no breakthrough regarding the perpetrators, as reported by PTI.

While a total of six persons have been arrested in connection with the May 4 parading of two Kuki women naked in the Kangpokpi district of the state. Earlier on Saturday, the Manipur government appealed to the public to not believe in rumours.
