Monsoon Update: While monsoons are still expected in Northern India amid ongoing heatwaves, monsoons have already arrived in Kerala, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, with heavy rains recorded in Mumbai last week. Monsoon arrived sooner than expected in some states (like Maharashtra and Kerala), other states (including Jharkhand, Bihar, Delhi, and Punjab) are still waiting for relief.

A heatwave warning has been issued for Delhi till June 18, while the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heatwave conditions in portions of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Jharkhand until June 16.

Current Status Of Monsoon In India

Over the next three to four days, the monsoon may affect coastal Andhra Pradesh, the northwest Bay of Bengal, and Odisha, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Monsoon observers reported that the feeble monsoon pulse over the Bay of Bengal was dominated by low-level warm winds from the northwest, extending the hot weather in certain areas of central and northern India.

The IMD forecast states that monsoon rains have fallen 4 percent short of average nationwide this season. There has been a notable 53 percent rainfall deficit in Northwest India in particular. Meanwhile, from June 1 to June 12, Southern India received 60 percent more rainfall than normal.

When Will Monsoon Arrive In Delhi?

The monsoon is predicted to arrive in Delhi and other northern Indian regions by the end of the month, around June 27, according to a statement released by the IMD on Wednesday.
