Monsoon Update: The IMD has issued a red alert for parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa, forecasting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the weekend. The intense rainfall is expected to continue in Gujarat and south peninsular India until Sunday. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be heavy rains in eastern UP on Saturday and a heavy rain warning has been issued in Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj and surrounding districts.

Delhi Weather Update

Delhi-NCR is expected to experience light, isolated rainfall over the next three days. The maximum temperature in the region is predicted to be around 36 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Light rain is anticipated in the capital on July 21 and 22, offering some respite from the heat. The Meteorological Department has predicted that with the monsoon line approaching, most parts of Delhi will receive light to moderate rainfall and people will get relief from the humid heat.

Rain Alert In THESE States

A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal transformed into a depression on Tuesday, moving towards Odisha. The depression was located near Puri, Gopalpur, and Paradip and is moving northwest.

The IMD notification states, “The system is expected to move northwestwards and cross the Odisha coast, near Puri, as a depression on Saturday morning. Thereafter, it would further move west-northwestwards across Odisha – Chhattisgarh and weaken gradually.”

In light of the depression's movement, the IMD has issued a red alert for Telangana, central Maharashtra, coastal Goa, and Gujarat for Saturday. An orange alert is in place for Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kutch, and Saurashtra over the weekend. These regions are expected to receive 115-120 mm of rainfall in the next 24 hours. Moderate to heavy rain is also predicted for Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and eastern Rajasthan for the next three days.

Impact On Southern States

Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh experienced heavy rainfall on Friday, leading to school closures and flooding in several areas. Residents faced waterlogged streets and rainwater seeping into homes.

The IMD has issued a 'signal 3' port warning for coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, including Kalingapatnam, Visakhapatnam, and Kakinada, due to the ongoing heavy rainfall. This warning alerts vessels of a possible cyclonic storm.
