A 21-year-old woman, studying for a competitive exam, was allegedly abducted in Rajasthan’s Kota on Sunday. The girl’s father also claimed that he received a Rs 30 lakh ransom demand from the kidnappers. Kota police have launched an investigation while they are yet to confirm if the girl was abducted.

The woman, originally from Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, was reportedly living in a Kota hostel for exam coaching. The father received pictures of his daughter bound and a ransom note, but police have yet to confirm the abduction’s occurrence in Kota.

The woman's father, in a police complaint, stated that he had taken his daughter to Kota in August last year for exam coaching and she was living in a hostel under the Vigyan Nagar police station area, reported news agency PTI.

Circle Inspector Satish Chaudhary stated that the police lodged an abduction case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and initiated an investigation. However, preliminary findings revealed no records of the woman’s admission to the coaching institute or the hostel mentioned by her father.

The verification of the abduction claim is ongoing, with the police treating the father’s complaint with due diligence, the official said. "It was yet to be verified and confirmed that the abduction incident really took place in Kota," he said, adding that based on the complaint by the woman's father an investigation was underway.
