The Supreme Court on Monday made strong oral observations while hearing the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) plea challenging the Karnataka High Court order that had quashed proceedings against the wife of the state CM Siddaramaiah in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

A divisional bench of CJI BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran rejected the ED's petition asking it why it is being used for political battles.

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju appeared on behalf of the probe agency. News agency PTI quoted the bench saying, "Mr Raju (Additional Solicitor General S V Raju who was appearing for the ED), please don’t compel us to open our mouths. Otherwise, we will be forced to make some harsh comments about the ED."

"Unfortunately, I have some experience in Maharashtra. Don’t perpetuate this violence across the country. Let political battles be fought before the electorate. Why are you being used?” the bench added.

The ED has alleged that Siddaramaiah's wife BM Parvathi, received 14 high-value plots in Mysuru, which are worth around Rs 56 crore, in return for a 3.2-acre land that the MUDA had acquired from her. The 3.2-acre land was itself gifted to Parvathi by her brother in 2010.

Congress welcomed the apex court's verdict and slammed the BJP for what they termed as 'fake propaganda'. AICC General Secretary in-charge of Karnataka, Randeep Singh Surjewala, accused the BJP of "manufacturing" false allegations against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

In a post on X, he said, "BJP manufactured false allegations against Karnataka CM, Siddaramaiah over MUDA ! BJP protested for months against Karnataka CM, Siddaramaiah over MUDA ! BJP misused the Office of Governor and unleashed the ED against Karnataka CM, & his wife over MUDA ! BJP maliciously hounded and levelled false allegations against Karnataka CM, over MUDA !"

CM Siddaramaiah also welcomed the top court judgement and slammed the Centre. He said, "The Supreme Court's historic verdict rejecting the Enforcement Directorate's appeal to investigate my wife, Smt. Parvathi, in connection with the MUDA site allotment case is a resounding slap on the face of the Central Government's vendetta politics".
