TRINAMOOL Congress (TMC) leader Mukul Roy’s son Subharanghsu on Wednesday said that his father needs medical attention. His remarks came after his father and senior politician from West Bengal expressed his desire to return to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He also said that Roy’s statement regarding his return to the saffron party should not be taken seriously.
"I have heard what my father said. He needs medical attention. He has physical and neurological problems. Those trying to use my father to serve their political interests should be ashamed of themselves," said Subharanghsu, as quoted by the news agency PTI.
"He is extremely unwell and suffers from dementia and Parkinson's disease,” he further added.
Subharanghsu’s statement came following Mukul Roy’s statement that he was always with BJP and said that he was never a part of Mamata Banerjee-led TMC.
“I was always with BJP and I will remain with the party if they offer me work. There is no question of resigning from TMC, I am not even a part of it... I have already resigned from TMC," Roy was quoted as saying by the news agency ANI.
Responding to his remarks that he was never with TMC, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that this is a very small issue and further called Roy a BJP MLA.
“Mukul Roy is a BJP MLA and it's totally up to him. You should ask Subhranshu, his son, who registered a missing complaint which is very serious. But this is a very small issue, we don't care,” Mamata Banerjee was quoted as saying by the news agency ANI.
“BJP is in power, that’s why they do whatever they want. But they don’t understand power is temporary, chair may come and go but democracy will continue forever. The Constitution will continue forever, there may be some amendments. But this constitution cannot be bulldozed. That’s why they (BJP) will not win the upcoming 2024 election” Banerjee further said.
