Mumbai: A porter has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a woman on a long-distance train at Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus, according to police officials. The disturbing incident occurred after the woman and her son arrived at the station late Saturday night.
The woman, described as "middle-aged," was travelling from an outstation train at Bandra Terminus and then boarded another train that had arrived on the opposite side of the platform. At the time, the second train was empty, except for the accused porter, the Government Railway Police (GRP) confirmed.
While on board the vacant train, the porter reportedly attacked the woman, and after the assault, he fled the scene. The woman immediately went to the Bandra GRP police station and filed a complaint. Police reviewed footage from nearby surveillance cameras, which helped them identify and arrest the porter.
Authorities are investigating why the woman entered the second train after arriving at Bandra Terminus. The porter has been charged with rape under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, although police have not released further details about the incident.
