Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday scripted history by becoming the second-longest-serving PM of India. The senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader broke Congress leader Indira Gandhi's record of 4,077 consecutive days as Prime Minister of the country from January 24, 1966, to March 24, 1977. PM Modi completed 4,078 days in office, surpassing Gandhi.
PM Modi Stands Only Behind Nehru
By breaking Gandhi's record, PM Modi has now become the second-longest consecutively serving Prime Minister, behind only India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
PM Modi is also the first and only non-Congress leader to have completed two full terms and to be re-elected twice with a majority.
Additionally, PM Modi is the only Prime Minister, apart from late Jawaharlal Nehru, to win three consecutive Lok Sabha elections.
Narendra Modi Won Three Assembly And Lok Sabha Elections
Not only this, PM Modi also achieved a unique record by winning six consecutive elections as the leader of a party -- Gujarat (2002, 2007, 2012), Lok Sabha polls (2014, 2019, 2024). He has been a head of a democratically-elected government, either in the state or Centre.

PM Modi's Family Background
Narendra Modi, who born into a modest family in Vadnagar, Gujarat, completed his initial study in his home town. He used to help his father sell tea at a railway station before venturing into social work by joining the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He rose through the ranks of the RSS and later the BJP. Known for his grassroots connect and strong communication style, PM Modi is a defining figure in the history of Indian politics.
Modi-Magic Continues Since 2014
His debut in national politics in 2014 enabled the BJP to storm to power at the Centre with a brute majority of 272 seats. In the next Lok Sabha elections in 2019, the BJP, under PM Modi's leadership, improved its tally, winning 303. In his third Lok Sabha battle, the BJP fell short of reaching the halfway mark in 2024, yet it emerged as the single largest party and formed the government for a third straight term.
