NHAI New Rules: The government on Friday announced that cash payments at toll plazas on national highways will be discontinued from April 10. Starting April 10, drivers will be required to pay tolls through digital methods, primarily FASTag or UPI.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has officially discontinued cash transactions at all National Highway Traffic Plazas (NHTPs). The move is a part of the agency's effort to transition from traditional cash-based transaction processing to an all-electronic tolling system, aiming to reduce waiting times and ease congestion across the highway network.
1,150 Toll Collection Locations To Be Affected
According to a report by Times Now, the move will affect approximately 1,150 toll collection locations across the National Highway System, including the interstate highways and expressways.
Toll Hike On National Highways And Expressways In UP
Along with the discontinuation of cash payments, the tolls for automobiles travelling on National Highways and Expressways in Uttar Pradesh have increased by up to 10 per cent.

- Agra-Lucknow Expressway: Car/SUV tolls increase from Rs 665 to Rs 675; two-wheeler tolls increase from Rs 330 to Rs 335.
- Gorakhpur Link Expressway: Four-wheeler tolls will now be Rs 295 (up Rs 10), and two-wheeler tolls Rs 145 (up Rs 5).
- These new rates will apply to buses, trucks and heavy commercial vehicles.
Advisory For Commuters
According to the government, the transition from traditional cash-based transaction processing to an all-electronic tolling system will make travel smoother and more efficient. Authorities have advised commuters to recharge their FASTags and ensure they are linked to their bank accounts before April 10 to avoid any inconvenience at toll plazas.
