The Election Commission, in a big blow to Sharad Pawar, recognised his nephew Ajit Pawar-led faction as the real NCP. The EC decision in this regard came as the tallest challenge for the 84-year-old political giant, who lost the part symbol and name which he took years to fabricate.
Posters of Sharad Pawar, Supriya Sule and Rohit Pawar were put up outside the NCP office in Mumbai.

ECI provided a one-time option to Sharad Pawar’s faction to claim a name for its new political formation and provide three preferences to them by 3 pm today.
Amid the political pandemonium in the state, it becomes important to understand the options Sharad Pawar could explore when the Opposition has decided to collectively fight the mighty BJP.
The first major task that the Sharad faction needs to materialise is to choose a fresh symbol and name for his faction as Rajya Sabha polls are approaching in the state. Besides, the Lok Sabha polls are also not too far and Sharad could go Uddhav’s way.
With marking his faction’s fresh entry into electoral politics, with a new name and symbol, Sharad Pawar could move the Supreme Court to challenge the decision of the Election Commission (EC) to reclaim his party’s name and symbol. However, Ajit Pawar’s faction has already filed a caveat application in the Supreme Court seeking a hearing in the case of Sharad Pawar faction’s move an appeal against the Election Commission verdict.
Sharad Pawar's aide and former minister Jitendra Awhad said the veteran leader will "rise like a phoenix". Asked about the future course of action, he said, "Sharad Pawar is our party. He is our symbol and people of this state know him. There are many people in the state who are still firmly behind Pawar."
Political Stalwart Sharad could also consider brokering a truce with his estranged nephew Ajit Pawar to prevent a split in the vote bank of their party. The duo may come together and fight Lok Sabha polls under one banner, either in the INDIA bloc or with the BJP-led NDA.
