Amid a flood of sexual assault and rape allegations against some of Mollywood's biggest names in the Hema Committee report, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has stated that it has requested the full report, as only sections of it are currently available to the public.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the NCW reaffirmed its dedication to protecting women's rights and ensuring the enforcement of laws aimed at promoting equality and development. The Commission is actively working to acquire the complete Hema Committee Report, which has only been partially disclosed.
The NCW's statement read, "It has come to the notice of the National Commission for Women (NCW) that there are concerning issues within the Malayalam Film Industry, as highlighted in the Hema Committee Report. The NCW, in accordance with its responsibilities under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990, remains dedicated to overseeing matters related to the protection of women's rights and ensuring the enforcement of laws designed to support equality and development."
"The Commission has observed with concern the findings of the Hema Committee Report, which have been discussed in various media outlets. The report points to serious issues such as workplace harassment, gender-based discrimination, and other forms of exploitation that adversely affect women in the Malayalam Film Industry," it noted.
The Hema Committee Report, which alleges sexual exploitation and harassment in the Malayalam film industry, has triggered widespread outrage and led several celebrities to share their own experiences of harassment and exploitation.
Actor Mohanlal and 17 executive members resigned from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) on Tuesday in response to the sexual harassment allegations made against several of its members.
Following his resignation as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), actor Mohanlal publicly addressed the report on Saturday. He stated that he was not part of any influential group within the Malayalam film industry and was unaware of the existence of such a group. Mohanlal emphasized that Malayalam cinema is a vast industry with thousands of workers, and acknowledged that AMMA was unable to address the issues that have emerged.
