NEET UG 2024: Hearing the batch of petitions regarding the 'controversy-marred' National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Under Graduate (NEET-UG) 2024 exam, the Supreme Court on Monday sets three main conditions for the retest. While listing these conditions during the NEET-UG SC hearing, the apex court said that the re-examination demand could only be met based on 'settled parameters.'
SC observations came as it admitted breach of the sanctity of the most prestigious medical entrance examination in the country. Noting that "one thing is very clear. [Question paper] Leak has taken place,” CJI DY Chandrachud sets three main conditions for the re-NEET, a demand being raised by a large section of students, coachings and parents.
NEET UG 2024: SC Fixes Three Conditions
A bench led by CJI Chandrachud said that as the re-examination concerns as many as 23 lakh students, it will have to see whether -
1. Alleged breach took place at the systemic level i.e. widespread or national level
2. Whether the breach is of a nature which affects the integrity of the entire exam process
3. Whether it is possible to segregate the beneficiaries of the fraud from the untainted students. in a situation where a breach of sanctity affects the entirety of the exam and if segregation is not possible then retest is needed. but if beneficiaries are identified then a retest won't be needed which involves students on such a large scale, reported Bar and Bench.
NTA, Centre And CBI Asked To Submit Affidavits
The Supreme Court also ordered the centre, NTA and the CBI to submit affidavits with the demanded information before 5 PM on Wednesday. The court has deferred the hearing to July 11, Thursday. It asked NTA to submit information on the students which were benefitted from the paper leak, the compromised exam centres and how the leak was disseminated.
Asking whether data analytics, cyber forensics unit and other technologies can be used to differentiate the paper leak beneficiaries and honest students, the court asked NTA and Centre to make a submission.
