NEET Controversy: Amid the ongoing controversy over the NEET-UG exam, the Supreme Court on Friday sought responses from the Centre and the NTA on a plea seeking a CBI investigation into allegations of question paper leaks and other irregularities in the exam, A vacation bench led by Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, hearing a PIL filed by Hiten Singh Kashyap, also sought responses from the CBI and the Bihar government within two weeks.

The Court noted that the PIL would be considered alongside other pending cases on July 8, when the top court resumes after the summer break. On Thursday, the Centre and the NTA informed the Supreme Court that they had revoked the grace marks initially awarded to 1,563 candidates who had taken the examination for admission to MBBS and similar courses. These candidates will have the option to retake the test or forgo the compensatory marks.
The NEET-UG exam, was conducted on May 5 across 4,750 centres and around 24 lakh candidates appeared for it. The results were unexpectedly announced on June 4, earlier than the expected June 14 date. Allegations of question paper leaks in states like Bihar and other irregularities have led to protests in several cities and the filing of cases in seven high courts as well as the Supreme Court.
The NEET-UG examination, managed by the NTA, is essential for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and related courses in both government and private institutions across India.
