Assam BJP Organises Blood Donation Drives Across State On Zubeen Garg’s First Death Anniversary

The Assam Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has organised blood donation camps across the state to mark the first death anniversary of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg.

The party announced the blood donation drives in its organisational districts as a tribute to the late musician. Assam Health Minister Ashok Singhal described the blood donation campaign as a “befitting tribute” and a “true shraddhanjali’” to Garg.Assam Minister Rameswar Teli also stated that the programme was a way to honour the memory of Garg.

On September 19, artistes and organisations throughout Assam gathered to remember the music icon. Hundreds of fans, along with members of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), family members, and artistes, assembled at Zubeen Khetra in Sonapur, near Guwahati. Attendees sang some of Garg’s popular songs and paid homage to the singer.

At Zubeen Khetra, AASU Chief Advisor Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya addressed the gathering, speaking about Garg’s passing and the demand for justice. He said, “Today we are here to pay our respects to Zubeen Garg. One year has passed since the unexpected incident… Zubeen Garg must get justice.”

The Assam government organised a three-day programme through its Cultural Affairs Department to commemorate the singer. The programme began on September 17 and concluded on September 19.

Zubeen Garg passed away in Singapore on September 19, 2025, a day before he was scheduled to perform at the Northeast India Festival. He was renowned as a singer, composer, musician, actor, and filmmaker, and recorded songs in multiple languages.

Garg achieved widespread recognition beyond Assam with the song “Ya Ali” from the 2006 Hindi film ‘Gangster’. Throughout his career, he remained closely connected to Assamese music and culture.
