Shivaji Satam recalled the effort involved in an interview with Mumbai Mirror. He said, “The best memory for me will always be the 111-minutes long single shot episode we did in 2004.”
He revealed that the team rehearsed for six days along with the cameraman. The location was a four-storey building with two underground levels, including partially completed cellars where lighting was a challenge.
Shivaji said the episode that was aired was the first take. For the cast and crew, that meant coordinating performances, camera movements and transitions without the usual opportunity to repair mistakes through editing.
In 2004, when Indian television relied heavily on conventional editing and production, B. P. Singh tried a different format with a single-shot episode.
His decision put a different kind of responsibility on each of the people who were involved. The actors had to act continuously while remaining aware of the camera’s movements. The production team also had to coordinate in real time.
In an interview in 2018, Satam called the achievement a source of national pride. He said, “This is very important for me, as we, as Indians, set a world record.” He added that the accomplishment involved everyone, from the spot boy to the director and producer.
