Post Office Employees Diwali Bonus: In a welcome boost ahead of the festive season, the Department of Posts has cleared a bonus for eligible employees for the financial year 2025-26. The move comes shortly after the Railways announced a similar payout for its staff.
The order was issued on Friday and confirmed that eligible regular postal employees will get a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equal to 60 days’ wages. For those who qualify for the full year, the amount could work out to around Rs 14,000, based on the fixed calculation limit. The order has also been cleared by the Finance Minister, and payments are expected to reach employees before Diwali.
Which Employees Are Eligible for the Bonus?
The bonus covers the following groups, provided they meet the required conditions:
Regular employees: Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Group C staff and non-gazetted Group B employees.
Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS): Rural postal workers who satisfy the service criteria.
Temporary employees: Full-time casual labourers and casual workers with temporary status who fulfil the relevant rules.
Regular employees will get the productivity-linked bonus. Eligible GDS workers will receive an ex-gratia bonus, while qualifying temporary staff will be paid an ad hoc bonus.
How Much Bonus Will Employees Receive?
The Department of Posts has set Rs 7,000 as the maximum monthly salary that will be taken into account while calculating the bonus for regular employees. For those eligible for the full year, the figures work out like this:
Recommended For You
Monthly salary considered: Rs 7,000
Estimated daily wage: Rs 233.33
Bonus for 60 days: Roughly Rs 14,000
The final amount will depend on each employee’s eligibility, the length of qualifying service and the rules that apply.
Bonus for Gramin Dak Sevaks
Eligible Gramin Dak Sevaks will get an ex-gratia bonus based on their Time-Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) and the applicable Dearness Allowance (DA). The same Rs 7,000 monthly limit applies here as well.
GDS employees who did not work for the entire financial year may still receive a proportional bonus, subject to the rules in force. The announcement is expected to give eligible postal employees some extra financial support just before Diwali, making it a little easier to manage festive expenses.
