A 48-year-old man died after he was assaulted by two men over a senior citizen seat inside a Delhi metro at the Supreme Court station. Pawan Sharma died during treatment. A police case was registered against a former IAS officer and his son.
According to police, the incident took place on October 8 when Sharma was allegedly slapped and pushed during a dispute over a seat inside a metro.
Police said an FIR was registered against the two accused, identified as Sanjay Pratap Singh and his son Sidharth Singh, at the Supreme Court Metro police station.
The Delhi Police said it arrested a retired IAS officer and his son in connection with the death of Sharma. Both accused have been sent to jail, officials said.
Who Are The Father-Son Accused?
Police sources said Sanjay Pratap Singh is a former senior IAS officer who was earlier arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in an alleged bribery case. His son is said to be a lawyer practising at the Supreme Court.
How The Incident Unfolded
The altercation reportedly began over a seat reserved for senior citizens. Sharma was allegedly slapped and pushed during the argument, causing him to fall on the floor of the train and sustain injuries to his head.
The metro staff took Sharma to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital in an ambulance, where he was declared dead.
Sharma's mother, Durga Sharma, filed a complaint at the Supreme Court Metro police station. Based on her complaint, the police filed a case under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 3 (5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the altercation which led to the assault against Sharma. Further details about the sequence of events are being investigated, said police officials.
