India has requested the Federal Bureau Of Investigation (FBI) to provide the details of Sikh extremists living in the United States who are indulged in anti-India activities. This comes amid the ongoing investigation by the coveted American agency into the alleged murder plot of Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
According to a report by news agency Reuters which quoted anonymous official sources, the Indian counterpart of the FBI, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made this request in a meeting with the FBI chief Christopher Wray, who is on a two-day visit to India.
The issue of Sikh separatists using American soil to operate against India was discussed in great detail by both sides, said the official quoted by Reuters.
"India has requested the U.S. officials to share inputs on suspected individuals who have in recent years been recruited and embedded in the separatist movement," the official said.
The latest development came after the United States government alleged the role of an Indian national in the conspiracy to assassinate the Khalistani extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. While arresting an Indian-origin man named Nikhil Gupta, the US law enforcement agencies had tried to link the murder plot of one of their citizens to an Indian diplomat currently serving in the USA.
Earlier, the country witnessed another similar diplomatic fallout with Canada, when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged the role of Indian agents in the murder of dreaded Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. He was fatally shot while walking around a car parking near a Gurudwara in the Surrey region of Canada. India had dismissed all the allegations and had termed the accusations as 'baseless and motivated.'
