Nirav Modi Extradition Update: In a latest development in the Nirav Modi extradition proceedings, the diamantaire and fugitive businessman has appealed to the UK court to reopen his extradition proceedings, and the Westminster Court has accepted his petition.
With this move, the long-pending extradition of Nirav Modi can be delayed further, after the UK team had inspected Tihar Jail for the potential extradition of Fugitive Nirav Modi.
As the court accepted Modi’s request, the Indian authorities and investigative agencies are set for a legal response to avoid lengthy court proceedings. With the Condition of anonymity, a senior government official told the Hindustan Times, “Nirav Modi, through his legal team, filed an application before the Westminster court in the UK last month, seeking to reopen the appeal against his extradition to India. The court has accepted it, and a notice has been served to the Indian government.”

India Prepares For Legal Response
While the UK court is yet to announce the hearing date for the case, The Indian government is preparing a detailed reply that will be sent to the UK court via diplomatic channels. Another official told the media outlet that India will demand the dismissal of the latest plea from Nirav Modi.
Modi With Choksi Defrauded PNB Of Rs 13,000 Crore
Modi faces charges of defrauding Punjab National Bank. Nirav Modi, with his uncle Mehul Choksi, orchestrated a 13,000 crore PNB bank fraud, and Nirav is accused of shipping Rs 6498.20 crore of the total scam amount.

Nirav Modi is facing three separate criminal cases in India:
- CBI Case: Alleging fraud on Punjab National Bank (PNB), where Modi and his associates are accused of obtaining credit through fraudulently issued Letters of Undertaking (LoUs) worth Rs 6,498 crore.
- ED Case: Relating to the alleged laundering of proceeds from the PNB fraud, with the Enforcement Directorate attaching assets worth Rs 2,598 crore under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
- Criminal Proceedings: Involving alleged interference with evidence and witnesses in the CBI proceedings, further complicating Modi's legal troubles in India.
