Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday used seemingly inappropriate language to explain the importance of education and the role of women in population control. The remark by Nitish Kumar was made from the floor of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and worked to stoke a fresh controversy.

A female Bihar MLA belonging to the BJP said the CM "does not respect women". "Whatever he was saying he could have said it with dignity. He is insensitive & he does not respect women," said BJP MLA Nikki Hembrom. On the other hand, Nitish Kumar's deputy, Tejashwi Yadav, defended him, saying that the remarks "should not be taken in a wrong manner".

"Let me tell you one thing. It is wrong if someone misinterprets it. The statement of the CM was regarding sex' education. People are hesitant whenever the topic of sex' education is discussed," Tejashwi stated.

"This is now taught in schools. Science and biology are taught in schools. Children learn it. He said what should be done practically to stop the increase in population... This should not be taken in a wrong manner. It should be taken as a sex' education," he added.
