Noida Airport: In a major development, the Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, got the aerodrome licence on Friday, moving ahead for the operational commencement. The aviation regulatory body, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), issued the aerodrome licence for an ambitious project in the NCR. With the issuance of the aerodrome licence, the airport is set to launch flight operations.
Rakesh Kumar Singh, the chief executive officer of Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, confirmed that the licence has been obtained. Nodal officer of NIAL, Shailendra Bhatia, said the aerodrome licence has been issued in accordance with civil aviation rules for domestic flights and cargo operations.
Airport Will Be Ready For Operation In 45 Days: NIAL
Noida International Airport Limited said that the remaining deployment and operational arrangements at the airport are expected to be completed within the next 45 days. The airport infrastructure is now fully ready, asserted Bhatia.
DoT Asks Noida Airport To Allow RoW Access
In another development, the telecom department has written to Noida International Airport asking it to take necessary steps to enable installation of telecom infrastructure by private operators, as it cited the Telecom Act and other rules under which the airport qualifies as a 'public entity'.
The Telecom Act, alongside Telecom (Right of Way) Rules, offers a statutory framework for the grant of Right of Way permissions to facility providers, including licenced telecom service providers for the establishment, operation and maintenance of telecom networks, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said in its letter addressed to Noida International Airport.
The greenfield airport being developed in a PPP model in Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar is expected to become one of the largest airports in the country once fully operational. The first phase of the project, spread over 1,300 hectares with one runway and one terminal building, is slated to handle 1.2 crore passengers annually, officials said. The airport was originally scheduled to commence passenger services in September 2024. Officials said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate the airport in future.
