Tensions in Noida remains high as a fresh waves of violence reupted in Sector 80, where stone-pelting broke out again on Tuesday. While police intervention successfully de-escalated the situation and pacified workers at that location, the unrest has shifted to Sector 70. Demonstrators continue to target law enforcement with repeated stone-pelting in Sector 70. A significant security presence remains on the ground, with authorities working persistently to break up the crowds and reinstate public order.

Police Crackdown In Sector 121

Police have launched a crackdown in Sector 121 against individuals who disrupted the peace through stone-pelting. Officers have entered the streets to identify and take rioters into custody, leading to deserted lanes across the area. Despite these efforts, chaotic elements managed to carry out violent incidents in Sector 121 and Noida Phase 2. In response to these events, the police have enforced strict measures and cleared the public from the affected regions.

Context Of Protest 

The primary driver of the protest is the significant disparity in wages compared to neighbouring states and the rising cost of living. Thousands of workers from the Phase 2 Hosiery Complex began demonstrating on Friday, catalysed by the Haryana government's decision to implement a 35 per cent hike in minimum wages starting April 1, 2026.

Workers argue that their current monthly earnings of Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 are insufficient to sustain basic needs under current economic pressures.

The situation, which had been brewing for nearly five days, took a dangerous turn on Monday. Protesters engaged in heavy stone-pelting and arson, setting vehicles on fire after a female worker was reportedly struck during a police lathi-charge.

During the escalating violence, more than 50 factories were damaged and over 150 vehicles were damaged, many of which were set on fire. The violence resulted in major roadblocks and traffic congestion which paralysed daily life in Noida. Authorities deployed tear gas and lathi charges to disperse the mobs. A detailed investigation into the violence is now underway.

UP DGP Urges Calm Amid Unrest

Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Prashant Kumar has appealed to the public to maintain peace and restraint following the incidents of vandalism, violent clashes and arson in Noida. He stated that, under government directives, Noida Police and administrative officials are actively coordinating with workers, industrial management and other stakeholders to establish harmony.
