Light to moderate rain is expected in many places across Odisha until October 12, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy spells accompanied by thunderstorms in some districts of South Odisha. Rainfall activity is expected to gradually decrease after this period.
The weather department has also announced that conditions are becoming favorable for the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon. The process is expected to begin in the next 2 to 3 days from parts of Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal. It is estimated that the monsoon will fully withdraw from the entire country by October 16. During this same period, the Northeast Monsoon may become active over Southeast India.
Detailed Forecast
October 10: Heavy rainfall is possible in some areas of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj. A lightning warning has been issued for these districts.
October 11-12: Rainfall is likely in many parts of South and North Interior Odisha. Heavy rain with thunderstorms is forecast for one or two areas in Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput and Malkangiri.
Post-October 13 Outlook: The intensity of rain will decrease significantly from October 13. Only light rain with thunder may occur in isolated places. No major changes are expected in night temperatures.
New System Possible In Bay Of Bengal
A low-pressure area is likely to form over the South Bay of Bengal around October 22. The system may move in a north-westerly direction; however, its impact on Odisha is expected to be minimal.
Humidity Persists
Despite the ongoing rainfall, high moisture content in the atmosphere is causing continued heat and humidity across the state.
