Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday to discuss pressing issues, including the early restoration of statehood and the role of an elected government in countering terrorism. Emphasising the importance of involving the public in combating militancy, Abdullah urged the central government to work collaboratively with elected representatives to build trust and ensure effective governance in the region.
After meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Omar Abdullah expressed optimism about progress on restoring Jammu and Kashmir's statehood. He highlighted ongoing discussions aimed at benefiting the region's people and reiterated hope for continued efforts toward statehood restoration.
Abdullah described the talks as cordial and expressed hope for a better working environment to benefit the people of Jammu and Kashmir. After the 30-minute meeting, he briefed Shah on the current situation. Abdullah further raised the issue of restoring Jammu and Kashmir's statehood with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, expressing hope for its early restoration.

Omar Abdullah Urges Amit Shah To Engage J&K's Elected Representatives
Omar Abdullah emphasised to Amit Shah that combating militancy and terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir requires involving the local public. He stressed the importance of engaging elected representatives and the government to gain the confidence of the people in the fight against these issues.

“I have always said and I told the home minister that ‘you cannot fight militancy and terrorism in a vacuum, you will have to take the public of Jammu and Kashmir in confidence….they will also have to be brought into this battle, and for that, you will have to take into confidence their elected representatives and their elected government’,” Abdullah said.
