Operation Mahadav: The security force on Monday avenged the Pahalgam terror attack by neutralising Sulieman alias Asif (Hashim Musa), the mastermind behind it. Sulieman was killed along with two other terrorists under the Operation Mahadev in the Dachigam forest area on Srinagar's outskirts in Kashmir, officials said.
The other terrorists killed in the Army action have been identified as Jibran and Hamza Afghani. Jibran was allegedly involved in the Sonamarg Tunnel attack last year, marking two breakthroughs in a single operation.
How forces tracked down Sulieman?
Codenamed Operation Mahadev, the action was named after the Mahadev peaks, a sacred site in Kashmir. The operation was meticulously planned and launched after a suspicious communication was intercepted in early July.
The communication was being made using a Chinese radio device, a satellite phone, that was also used by the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack.
According to a CNN-News18 report, while the security forces were tracking the satellite phone, a communication was made using the device two days ago.
The security forces took no time and zeroed in on the location in deep Dachigam forest, on the foothills of Mahadev peak. Subsequently, the operation was launched, and the contact was established. The security forces neutralised Pakistani terrorists and busted their hideout.
Other group of terrorist present, reinforcement rushed to spot
Meanwhile, the intelligence inputs suggested the presence of another group of terrorists in the area after which additional reinforcements of the Army and other security forces have been rushed to the spot.
The forces recovered one M4 carbine rifle, two AK rifles, and other munitions from the encounter site. The bodies of the slain terrorists were handed over to the police for further processing.
