The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced the name of Karan Bhushan Singh, as its candidate from Uttar Pradesh's Kaiserganj seat. The seat which was held by Brij Bhushan Singh has been given to his son amid the accusation of sexual harassment of female wrestlers on Brij Bhushan, who is the former Chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).

Soon after the BJP fielded Karan Bhushan Singh, former Indian wrestler and Olympic medallist Sakshee Malikkh took to social media platform X and said that the daughters of the country lost and Brij Bhushan won.

"Daughters of the country lost, Brij Bhushan won. We all put our careers at stake and slept on the streets for many days in the sun and rain. To date, Brij Bhushan has not been arrested. We were not demanding anything, we were only demanding justice," she said.

Wrestler Bajrang Punia also slammed the saffron regiment and wrote in Hindi, "BJP considers itself the biggest party in the world but out of its lakhs of workers, it gave ticket to Brijbhushan's son, that too when BJP is surrounded by the issue of Prajwal Revanna."

He also mentioned that it was unfortunate that daughters who win medals are dragged on the streets and the son of the person who sexually exploits them is honoured.

Opposition Attacks BJP For Giving Ticket To Karan Bhushan Singh

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also took a dig at BJP and wrote, "Just when we thought that the Prajwal Revanna scandal had exposed the depths of the BJP’s depravity, they show that there are always new lows for them to fall to. They have now rewarded Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accused of sexual harassment by many of our women wrestlers, with a ticket for his son."

He further added that the BJP "is a party with no moral compass, led by a man whose only anchor is his desire for boundless power."

TMC leader Sagarika Ghose called it a "politics of proxy", adding that the incident shows BJP is "not willing to condemn the sexual assault committed by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh". She also questioned the saffron party over its stand on dynastic politics.

She said, "That BJP has given a ticket to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's son Karan Singh is shameful and disgraceful. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been accused of serious sexual assault by none other than India's Olympic medal-winning women wrestlers. He has also been accused under the POSCO act. To give a ticket to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's son is nothing but politics of proxy. It shows BJP is not willing to condemn the sexual assault committed by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. BJP says it's against dynastic politics, so what is this but dynastic politics?"
