The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has called for a special session in the Legislative Assembly on April 28 to discuss the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.

According to a report by News18, the assembly will pay tribute to the people who lost their lives in the heinous occurrence at Baisaran valley in Pahalgam. Later, a discussion will be held on the terror attack and related security issues. A resolution strongly condemning the terror attack is also expected to be passed during the assembly.

Notably, India is taking several steps in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. Earlier in the day, CDS General Anil Chauhan met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi. Later, Singh also visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh chaired a crucial security review meeting in Udhampur, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss and strengthen security measures in the region. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai (IAS), DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range Sarah Rizvi, SSP Udhampur Amod Ashok Nagpure, and other senior officials from the Army, Police, and District Administration.

According to the report, Singh reiterated that PM Modi is monitoring the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.  “Overall, I feel that we do not need to worry or panic under the leadership of Modi…the home ministry and defence ministry are taking a very thoughtful decision based on their inputs, and we believe that whatever decisions are taken by the government would be taken in the best interest of the public. We should be assured of that," the report quoted Singh as saying.

In a punitive response to the attack, India suspended the visas of all Pakistani nationals with immediate effect from April 27. The Centre also suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and closed the Attari Border.
