Goa Pro-Pakistan Row: Two shop owners and staff landed in legal trouble in Goa after their LED signboards flashed a pro-Pakistan slogan. The shops were located in the busy market in the North Goa district. Police officials on Wednesday said they have detained nine persons after probing the matter.

Pro-Pakistan slogans were displayed on the signboards of shops at Baga (in Calangute area) and Arpora (Anjuna) beach villages, creating outrage in the market. The LED attached to the top of the shop displayed "Pakistan Zindabad" slogans on Tuesday evening.

A few marketgoers noticed the objectionable text of the digital signboards and filmed them on their phones. They shared the video clips on social media, seeking police action against the shopowners.

Reaction to the incident, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said police have taken action as the boards were displayed without permissions. Some locals complained to police about the LED signboards of two shops at Baga and Arpora beach villages about displaying "Pakistan Zindabad" slogans. Baga and Arpora villages are located adjacent to each other in North Goa.

"Nine persons connected with the two shops have been detained. The shops operate independently of each other and pro-Pakistan slogans were displayed at the same time on both Tuesday evening,” a police official said.

Four persons were detained by the Calangute police and five by the Anjuna police, he added.

Officials have disconnected the LED boards and registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 152 (endangering sovereignty, unity and integrity of India) and provisions of the Information Technology Act, the Goa Police said.

The video of the incident created a stir on social media. A user, Ramesh Shinde, on X said, "‘Pakistan Zindabad’ in Goa?? LED boards of two shops at Baga & Arpora, Goa, were found displaying “Pakistan Zindabad” ! 2 persons detained by Goa police. Such anti-nationals must be dealt strictly. @JaipurDialogues @KreatelyMedia."
