Parliament Winter Session Live Updates: The Lok Sabha is set to take up a debate the Opposition has been demanding for days: a discussion on electoral reforms, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of India’s voter rolls during Day 7 of Parliament's Winter Session. The government and opposition parties agreed last week to have this debate after many requests.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is set to lead the opposition intervention today and is likely to focus his remarks on what he terms "vote theft," the reliability of the voter lists, and the role of the Election Commission of India. Gandhi has consistently raised concerns about major flaws in the electoral process, including large-scale duplicate entries and deletions, which he argues constitute procedural distortions.

Denying the allegations, the poll body stated that Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is crucial because the voter lists are full of old mistakes. These errors accumulated over more than twenty years, since the last nationwide door-to-door revision took place between 2002 and 2004. These issues include double entries, names of deceased or shifted voters, and figures that don't match population estimates. Parliament's current debate on the SIR is crucial to building public confidence in India's election process.
