Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda has criticised Congress for allegedly doing "cheap politics" over the demand for a memorial for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The remarks from Nadda came after Congress heavily criticised central government over this issue and claimed that the government was disrespecting the former prime minister.

Nadda, in a video on X, said that it is disappointing that the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge are doing politics over Manmohan Singh's death. He claimed that the grand old party never respected Singh when he was alive, and now they were doing politics just for the sake of headlines.

“No amount of condemnation is enough for such cheap thinking of the Congress,” Nadda said in the video. “The Congress, which never gave real respect to Manmohan Singh when he was alive, is now playing politics in the name of his respect,” Nadda added in the video posted on X.

He further accused the Congress of placing Sonia Gandhi as a "super PM" over Singh when he was the prime minister of the country from 2004 to 2014. "This is the same Congress that tarnished the dignity of the PM post by placing Sonia Gandhi as 'super PM' over PM Manmohan Singh," the BJP President said. "Not just this. The way Rahul Gandhi insulted Manmohan Singh by tearing an ordinance, there is no other example of this," Nadda added.

Nadda also pointed out that this was not the first time that Congress and the Gandhi family were disrespecting a veteran. He emphasised that the grand old party has a history of demeaning the national heroes. “Whether it is Baba Saheb Ambedkar, the country’s first President Rajendra Prasad, Sardar Patel, Lal Bahadur Shastri, PV Narasimha Rao, Pranab Mukherjee, or Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Congress and the Gandhi family have consistently disrespected these leaders,” Nadda pointed out.
